Local Friends - Sheffield Hallam University
Are you interested in other cultures? Are you studying a language you would like to practice with a native speaker? Or perhaps, you are planning a trip abroad and need to know more about your chosen destination.
The Local Friends project at Sheffield Hallam University puts our international students in touch with local people in the City. Previous hosts have met students in coffee bars, taken them on a walk to a local park or even invited them to their home. The project is designed to as flexible for hosts as possible, to fit alongside your interests and commitments.
The Local Friends scheme gives our International students a real flavour of the City and English culture and the hosts really appreciate meeting students from around the world. Many Sheffield U3A members have hosted students in previous years. Quotes from previous meetings include,
"Thanks for arranging the students to come for tea - we had a great time and they seemed to enjoy themselves, especially the scones, jam and cream!"
"I thoroughly enjoyed hosting the students. They were delightful and very interested in anything 'British'. I'd be very happy to host more students in the future".
"We had a great time and might be seeing the students again in the near future, maybe for them to cook us some Chinese food. We could certainly consider other students in the future".
