The group meets on the first Monday morning of each month. We meet in a member's home and discuss gardening topics and problems. We have plant swap mornings, and watch garden videos. We invite members of other gardening groups to join us to hear a speaker on gardening. We visit garden centres, specialist nurseries, and other gardens. All gardening groups meet together for an annual lunch in January.

This year the Group is building a programme which will include visits to great NGS gardens and members' gardens to identify problems.  We have plant exchanges, watch DVDs of planting techniques and work on plant Identification via the BBC Gardener's World. Practical sessions on gardening skills. Visit members' gardens and help with tasks.

We work as a group of volunteers dedicated to clearing and replanting areas of the Park.  We are currently renovating the rock garden and creating the SU3A Woodland Garden.  Tasks include digging, weeding, pruning, sweeping paths, pond clearance.  We work from 10 am to 11.30 am on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month.  We work under the supervision of the Park staff and most tools are provided though volunteers must wear stout boots and gardening gloves. There is no heavy work and health and safety rules are strictly observed.

We meet on the second Tuesday of the month at 2.00pm. at the Abbey pub (junction of Abbey Lane and Chesterfield Road, S8) during the winter months from September to April. Meetings cover various gardening interests. In summer we visit private and public gardens and garden centres - getting behind the scenes as often as we can. We have quizzes, videos, speakers, and slide-shows. We hold meetings in members' homes, and view progress with their gardens. Members put forward ideas for each programme. We have met as a group for the past 6 months to look at our gardening sites and to discuss the issues of organic growing.  Half our members have never grown fruit or vegetables before. The other half have experience of allotment or garden growing. We will probably stay together as a group to the end of the growing season - after that we will see...
